Daddi Fadel

Is a clinical scientist at the Center for Ocular Research and Education (CORE), University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. She is a Pioneer of modern lens designs and a specialist in contact lenses for irregular cornea, scleral lenses, myopia control, and orthokeratology. She studied optometry at Istituto Superiore di Scienze Optometriche (ISSO) in Rome (1998-2001), a four-year course achieved in three years with honors.
She started to lecture and publish from her first year of Optometry school. She has 25 years’ experience in optometry and specialty contact lenses.

She is internationally recognized

She is internationally recognized as a key opinion leader, who has several peer-reviewed publications in the area of specialty contact lenses and lectures extensively in 5 languages in national and international symposia.
Daddi Fadel and Dr. Melissa Barnett are authors of the “Clinical Guide for Scleral Lens Success”. Daddi Fadel is the author of the book “Scleral Lens Complications: Their Recognition, Etiology, and Management”.
She is Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Contact Lens Research & Science (JCLRS).She is a certified and approved advanced speaker to conduct NCLE-approved courses. She is the first Certified EyePrint Practitioner outside the USA and Canada.

 Is a Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society (SLS), the British Contact Lens Association (BCLA), the American Academy of Optometry (AAO), and the International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE). She is the Founder and head of the European School of Scleral Lenses (EUROSCOLE), Founder and Past President of Accademia Italiana Lenti Sclerali (AILeS), co-founder and President of Euro & Austral-Asia Scleral Lens Academy (EASLA), a council of the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists (ISCLS), Global Ambassador of the BCLA, member of the GPLI Advisory Board, member of the medical advisory board of the International Keratoconus Academy (IKA), Program & Education Chair of The Summit of Specialty Contacts (SSC) and of the Global Ophthalmic Women (GLOW), Board Member of the International Forum for Scleral Lens Research (IFSLR) and of the International Congress of Scleral Contact (ICSC), Clinical Advisor of Myopia Care, and International Relations Chair of the Scleral Lens Education Society (SLS).

Dr. Karen G. Carrasquillo    OD, PhD, FAAO, FSLS, FBCLA

Dr. Karen G. Carrasquillo

Is Senior Vice President of Clinical and Professional Affairs at BostonSight. In addition, she is an adjunct clinical professor at the New England College of Optometry, an adjunct clinical professor at the school of optometry, MCPHS University, Advisory Board member for the Gas Permeable Lens Institute (GPLI), Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (FAAO), Fellow of the Educational Society of Scleral Lenses (FSLS), Fellow of the British Contact Lens Association (FBCLA), and Global Ambassador of the BCLA. She was named Most Influential Women in Optical, as an Innovator in Vision Monday 2021. She is the founder and Program Chair of FitAcademy, an educational retreat in cornea and scleral lenses, and is also a planning committee member for the International Congress of Scleral Contacts (ICSC) meeting and Global Ophthalmic Women (GLOW) meeting, and acting Chair for the 2024 Global Ophthalmic Women (GLOW) meeting.

She is an international key opinion leader and speaker

She is an international key opinion leader and speaker, having delivered more than 100 presentations locally and internationally, also the author of numerous publications on the therapeutic use of scleral lenses and prosthetic replacement of the eye surface system (PROSE) and is also the author of several patents. Prior to completing her doctorate degree in Optometry and her residency in Cornea and Contact Lenses, she completed a PhD in Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico and a postdoctoral fellowship in ophthalmological research from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, in Boston, MA.


Louise A. Sclafani    OD, FAAO, FSLS `89 ICO

2024 Delegate Lead

Louise A. Sclafani

Served as Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of Optometric Services at University of Chicago from 1993-2017. Her main interests include contact lenses, corneal disease, and surgery co-management. She applies her experience of challenging hospital-based care as Head, Specialty Lens Portfolio, CooperVision. She continues to see patients at SoLo Eyecare, a private practice in Chicago and at the Illinois College of Optometry where she is an Associate Clinical Professor.

Experience

She has held leadership roles in the American Optometric Association including Illinois State President and Chair of the Cornea and Contact Lens Section. She was awarded the status of Fellow of the Scleral Lens Society, Associate Member of the International Society of Contact Lens Specialists and Diplomate by the American Academy of Optometry CCLRT and is the Chair of the Section. She was selected by Review of Optometry as one of the Top 10 Females at the Forefront of Optometry, and recently ranked as a National Keratoconus Foundation Top Doctors, News Week’s Top 100 Optometrist in the US, Vision Monday Most Influential Women and is a founding member of GLOW, Global Ophthalmic Women. She enjoys sharing her wine pairing and culinary skills, travel, sailing, being a “hockey mom” to Liam and creating memories with her husband, Jeff McClimans (Optos).


Dr. Patricia Flores     OD, MSc, PhD, IACLE, FSLS

2024 Marketing and Social Media Lead

Dr. Patricia Flores

Dr. Patricia Flores is from Santiago, Chile and currently works in Global Professional Services for the Specialty Lens Division at Menicon.  She has an extensive background in vision science having earned a Diploma, a Masters degree and a PhD all in Optics, Optometry & Vision at the University of Madrid (Spain).  Dr. Flores currently also runs her own specialty lens clinic in Valparaíso, Chile specializing in Myopia Control, complex contact lens fits for diseases of the ocular surface.  Dr. Flores es Fellow of the Scleral Lens Education Society (SLS), Member of International Association of Contact Lens Educators (IACLE), Member for the Latin American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (ALOCM), Member for Gas Permeable Lens Institute (GPLI), Board member for International Scleral Contact Lens (ICSC), Board member for Global Ophthalmic Women (GLOW). She is an accomplished researcher and educator having lectured extensively in Latin America and around the world.

Experience

Dr. Patricia Flores, over the years, has been able to partner with great physicians and researchers in creating a series of peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed publications.
In her teaching area, she helps explain contactology to those who do not know it, but want to know it. It helps make the pace of learning a shorter, but effective, path in knowing the tools necessary to do good clinical work, with ethics and also with business vision.
She is founder of the “Patricia Flores Vision Center”. Focused on clinical and academic excellence, reference center in South America. With a great human team that makes everything make sense, for the benefit of patients.
Throughout her career she has attended more than a hundred National and International conferences. Where she has learned to value knowledge not only as an element of learning for herself, but also as the duty we have to share knowledge and errors with the rest of her colleagues.


Karen DeLoss    OD, FAAO, FSLS

2024 Education Lead

Karen DeLoss

Is an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, Kellogg Eye Center, Department of Ophthalmology in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Her practice primarily concentrates on specialty contact lenses for corneal ectasia and ocular surface disease. She also sees patients for primary care optometry. Her research is focused on clinical outcomes of specialty contact lenses and anterior segment disease.  She has published in American Journal of Ophthalmology, Contact Lens and Anterior Eye, Eye and Contact Lens and Cornea.  Dr DeLoss is the vice chair of the Global Specialty Lens Symposium. She also serves on the board of the American Optometric Association, Cornea and Contact Lens Section. Dr DeLoss is also an advisory board member for the Gas Permeable Lens Institute and advisory member of the Scleral Lens Research Meeting. Dr DeLoss writes a column every two weeks for the online newsletter, Contact Lens Today. She is a contributor to the GP Insights section of Contact Lens Spectrum and other monthly sections. She is a journal reviewer for Cornea, Optometry and Vision Science, Eye and Contact Lens, Contact Lens and Anterior Eye, and Optometric Clinical Practice.

Experience

Dr DeLoss obtained her undergraduate degree at the University of Wyoming in Laramie Wyoming. She is a graduate of the Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago, Illinois.  She went on to complete a fellowship in Cornea and Contact Lens at the University of Houston College of Optometry, Houston, Texas, and also completed a clinical fellowship at the Boston Foundation for Sight in Needham, Massachusetts. Dr DeLoss is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a fellow of the Scleral Lens Society. She lectures both nationally and internationally on subjects related to her clinical practice and research.


Dr. Christine W. Sindt   OD, FAAO, FSLS

2024 Delegate Co-Lead

Dr. Christine W. Sindt

is a 1994 graduate of The Ohio State University College of Optometry. She completed a disease-based residency at the Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center. Dr. Sindt joined the faculty of the University of Iowa Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences in 1995, where she is currently the director of the contact lens service and professor of clinical ophthalmology. She also serves as a consultant optometrist for the Iowa City Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Dr. Sindt holds 7 US patents and has over 150 publications. She regularly travels to conferences, both nationally and internationally.

Experience

She has had numerous funded research grants; her current research projects include elevation specific scleral lens design, higher order aberration control on contact lenses, ocular health associated with scleral lenses, and smart contact lenses. She was the 2010 AOA Cornea and Contact Lens Council Chair, 2011 Practitioner of the Year by the Contact Lens Manufacturers Association, 2013 Legends Award from the American Optometric Association’s Contact Lens and Cornea Section, 2016 Top 30 Most Influential in Contact Lenses in the Last 30 Years by the Contact Lens Spectrum, 2017 Theia Award of Excellence for innovation, and 2019 National Keratoconus Foundation names her “Top Doc” of the year and the Scleral Lens Society Scleral Lens Practitioner of the Year. Dr. Sindt is the chief clinical editor for Review of Optometry and has served as associate editor for Review of Cornea and Contact Lens, an Optometry Times editorial advisory board member, and as a contributing editor for Contact Lens Spectrum. She also serves as peer reviewer for several ophthalmologic journals.
